This news article is also dated Dec., 1952, so immediately I think, "Oh, I'll just add this to the previous clippings of that same time period. But the initial one was of Howard, this one is of Johnnie, both sons of Fred R. and Ona Daugherty. I am beginning to imagine the turmoil that each day brings to those with loved ones in the service.
Johnnie Daugherty Wounded 2nd Time on North Korean Battleground
"Word was received Monday morning by Fred Daugherty, Wessington (SD), that his son, Johnnie, had been wounded for the second time in action in Korea. The telegram which Mr. Daugherty received said that Johnnie, this time, had been hit in the lower left leg by granade fire.
Pfc. Daugherty was wounded the first time on Aug. 15th and, according to the telegram Fred received Monday, Johnnie was returned to duty on Sept. 3rd.
The telegram Fred received reads in full: 'The Secretary of the Army has asked me to express his deep regret that your son, Pfc. Daugherty, John F., was wounded in action in Korea Nov. 25, 1952. He sustained flesh wound of left lower leg, caused by gernade (granade?) fire when his position was attacked by opposing forces. He was returned to duty from previous wound Sept. 3, 1952. Mail may be forwarded to him; Pfc. John F. Daugherty, 55193259, C-9 Hospital Section, Co., 'I', 15th Infantry, APO 503, C-O Postmaster, Sand Francisco, California. Signed Wm. E. Bergin, Major General, the Adjutant General of the Army.
Editor's note: It's Christmas time. Why don't you send Johnnie a Christmas card or a get well soon card. We know he would very much appreciate hearing from many while he lays in the hospital with wounds for the second time."
I think I'll add a short article, dated April, 1953...
John Daugherty, Twice Wounded Back from Korea
"Johnnie Daugherty, who probably had as rough, or rougher time as any local serviceman returned home to Wessington this past week on furlough, having completed his overseas duty tour.
Johnnie was wounded twice while serving on the front line in Korea. The first time was on Aug. 15, 1952, and was out of action until Sept. 3rd of the same year. Again on Nov. 25th he received wounds, this time in the leg.
Daugherty has a month at home with his father, Fred Daugherty, before returning to state-side duty where he will soon receive his discharge."
